It's time for "detox"!

The holidays are over - it's time for a detox!

We saw off the old year, and with it, the various delicacies that we enjoyed in the past weeks left our tables. We probably also feel that we overdid it a little - a few more fritters, some kind of sausage that maybe we didn't need, but it smelled so enticing while we were walking around the city, and we haven't eaten French salad since Easter, so we took it all in. Let's not even talk about small cookies - we simply followed the old saying that calories eaten in December - do not count!

However, our clothes, which seem to have shrunk in the wash, are reminding us lately that this is not exactly the case. That is why we are thinking more and more seriously about diet, but also about detoxing the entire body. In other words, we have big and important New Year's resolutions ahead of us, for which, as always, we wait for tomorrow.

Detox is not a diet

It should be kept in mind that detox is not the same as a diet, it represents a short-term cleansing of the body during which we introduce nutrients into the body in liquid form - freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies and herbal, green, white or mate teas. Lots of teas. Such regimes are not permanent solutions but mainly serve to guide and focus us on a longer-term balanced and healthier diet.

We won't lose a significant number of pounds from detox, but we can feel better in the short term - refreshed and energized. After about a week of the detoxification regime, nutritionists recommend starting to introduce solid food, without skipping meals and snacks. Along with five small meals a day, they advise the intake of at least 1.5 liters of liquid - water, but especially herbal teas, which are beneficial for the whole body.

For the best results, it is important to consume as much liquid as possible daily, (significantly reduce or) completely stop consuming coffee, alcohol and cigarettes, eat as much raw fruit and vegetables as possible, reduce salt intake to a minimum, avoid foods with high-fat content, as well as canned and ready industrial meals. A big warning also applies to sweets, cakes and snacks that should not be included in the daily diet, while dairy products and cheese should also be limited. Sweetened and carbonated drinks should be eliminated, and herbal teas should be consumed instead.

You can find the best selection of teas in Harissa Spice Store stores or in our web shop at www.harissa.hr.
