Trikatu pastilles
The name trikatu refers to a simple Ayurvedic mixture of black pepper, long pepper and ginger, and pastilles are actually the French name for pills.
Time Needed:
Difficulty:
Amount:
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp ground bengal pepper
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/2 licorice root or orange zest (optional)
Preparation:
- Mix the black pepper, long pepper and ginger.
- Slowly add a small amount of honey to the spice mixture. (If your honey is crystallized, melt it in a cup in a bowl of hot water.) Mix all together.
- Continue adding honey while mixing until the mixture becomes a paste. Do not add too much honey or you will not be able to form pastilles. If you add too much honey, add more spices in the same proportions until you reach the desired consistency.
- A pea-sized amount of mixture is enough to shape one pastill. Shape the mixture into a ball with your fingers. Roll the balls in sweet root powder or orange peel powder. Rolling in powdered licorice root or orange peel is optional, but it prevents the pastilles from sticking to each other.
- Store the pastills in a hermetically sealed container. Their shelf life is indefinite, but it is recommended to use them within 6 months for better effects.
If you make them small enough, they can be swallowed whole, but if you like it spicy, you can chew them. The proportions of the spices in the recipe are the same, therefore, if you want a larger amount of pastilles, just increase the amount of ingredients proportionally. This is one of the recipes that you can use to improve the functionality of the foods you use in your kitchen every day.
